Flying in the United States | Choosing the Regime from Your Purpose
Recreational or not? Build your registration, training and airspace checks so you don't walk in the FAA's wrong door.

Ask about the purpose first
The FAA explains that whether a flight is recreational is not decided by payment alone. Ask concretely: is it purely for personal enjoyment, or does it support a property listing or an organization's activities? Part 107 is the entry point for most non-recreational small UAS operations, but complex operations have other frameworks.

| Step | What to check |
|---|---|
| Classification | Purpose of the flight and the applicable rules |
| People and aircraft | TRUST or pilot certification, registration, Remote ID |
| Airspace | Controlled airspace, restrictions, whether authorization is required |
| Conditions | Visual line of sight, proximity to people and other aircraft, hours of operation |
| Visitors from abroad | Additional procedures for foreign-registered aircraft and visiting pilots |
For recreational flying, the guidance is to complete TRUST and carry proof of completion. Authorization in controlled airspace involves LAANC and DroneZone. A LAANC authorization alone does not satisfy the other conditions, so display each check result separately.

The idea is to keep a common UI built around "people, aircraft, place, method, evidence", and plug in the questions and offices the US requires as a regional profile. Simply translating the Japanese registration form can't handle the difference between operator registration and aircraft registration, or the categories of certification.

}Don't default to Part 107 or recreational; if it's unknown, route the user to verification. When a region's rules are updated, make it possible to pull up the plans created under the earlier version.
Short answers to users' questions
DEFINITION OF DONE
When you build it, check these.
- The applicable regime is never finalized while the purpose is unknown.
- Airspace authorization and pilot/aircraft checks are held separately.
- Users from abroad can reach the official guidance for visitors.
Design checklist items for use in spec reviews and functional testing.
